How To Improve The Appearance Of Post-Pregnancy Skin

Post-pregnancy skin can be a big shock to many new mums and we are made to feel pressured to get back into 'shape' after. However, it is important during pregnancy that we moisturise our precious baby bump to prevent stretching and splitting of the skin which for many become our 'tiger marks' and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that, I'm proud of mine! Just because your body has visibly changed that doesn't mean you can't try and improve its appearance, not for others but for yourself, you can still continue to look after your skin post pregnancy by continuing to use lotions and potions.

I am writing this post from my own experience as I know many woman have had different experiences with post pregnancy bodies. During my second pregnancy I developed very bad skin on my body which lead to scaring and uneven skin tone. Over the past year I have been in a good little routine which I found quite simple to keep up and have had the best results because I want a clear and even skin...

Firstly let's talk about pregnancy acne.. arms, back, chest (you can get it everywhere!)
The most important thing is to keep the area clean using products specific for blemish prone skin so body and face washes that have ingredients like tea tree oil or aloe vera. Thankfully many brands are safe during pregnancy mainly premium brands but if in doubt visit one of the skin specialists at your local Boots or department store or ask your midwife or GP for recommendations.

Next I would recommend exfoliating a couple of times a week with a good quality exfoliator, try and go for a natural or organic one or less/free from perfumes.. homemade ones are pretty good as you can make a batch from ingredient you may already have (but they are messier) here is one I've made before.

EXFOLIATING your face and body regularly will help remove dead skin cells and build up of dirt and products within the first layers of the skin. Make sure to start at your feet and work your way up in circular motions, working the scrub up to your heart, this will increase blood flow to the surface of the skin and remove any toxins from the body as well as the skin.

DRY BRUSHING along side exfoliating is another form of clearing the top layer of the skin, again I do this a couple of times a week starting from the feet up again helping increase blood flow and brilliant for improving the appearance of the skin because it evens your skin tone, reducing the appearance of scars, diminishing those little blemishes or prickly spots on the back of arms and reducing the appearance of stretch marks.

COCONUT OIL is a brilliant and cost efficient product to apply on to the skin, get a 100% natural one and organic, as it is naturally rich in Vitamin E and is a perfect moisturiser for the body and face. This will help even the skin tone by repairing the skin, rehydrating and improving the appearance of any marks you have (a little goes a long way) here you can read other fantastic uses for coconut oil and which brands I recommend.

Alternatively, If you don't mind investing in PREMIUM BRAND BODYCARE it will be worth it in the long term. Bust Firming Lotions are brilliant for breasts that have decided they want to deflate especially after breastfeeding, there are some that are even safe while breast feeding. Body Firming or Cellulite creams are brilliant for post workout or everyday applications for bums, tums arms and legs.

One of the most important things to remember is to stay hydrated, a least 2 litres of water a day, as well as eating a healthy and nutritious diet of meals and snacks and if you really feel like you need it, some good quality multi-viatmins to make sure your body is getting enough vitamins and minerals.. the benefits will be worth it after you have a routine that works for you.

If you have any questions on any part of this post please don't hesitate to email me at beautybakingbella@yahoo.com and I can recommend some great products that I used for my pre and post pregnancy body.

One thing I will say, is that my body isn't perfect, whose is?! I am more confident with my body now after having two babies than I was before.. always love yourself because that is important. When you are confident that will shine through and that is all that matters not what other people say or expect from you!  You mama have created such a precious little person, we sacrificed a lot because we are superwomen, our body's represent the best thing we could have ever done.. so be proud of your Mummy body!

I hope this post helps at least one person or forwarded onto someone that would benefit from some of the advice above. Do you have any other tips and tricks for post-pregnancy skin? Please share with me.
